Strengthening Families: A Protective Factor Framework

Strengthening Families helps child care programs support children's healthy development by building key protective factors that strengthen and empower families.

Strengthening Families: A Protective Factors Framework is a nationally recognized, research-informed approach to promoting the healthy development and well-being of children and families. The framework is built around five evidence-based protective factors that reduce the risk of child abuse and neglect while enhancing family stability and resilience: parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need, and the social and emotional competence of children. By focusing on everyday actions that build these strengths, child care programs can create more supportive, nurturing environments where families and children can thrive.
