FL Steps Professional Development Initiative; Florida Steps to Success
The Professional Development Initiative (PDI) Florida Steps to Success is a comprehensive statewide early care and education professional development system that is coordinated by the State of Florida Office of Early Learning. 
The Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia will be one of only 9 coalitions statewide participating in the Steps to Success pilot program.  The pilot will give you the opportunity to join the statewide registry, participate in new career pathway trainings and receive career advising services.

Discovering the Joy Conference

The ELCFV staff wishes to thank each and every one of you who participated in the annual Discovering the Joy conference on Saturday, September 24th!  Your presence at this year’s event made for another successful conference experience and we hope that you had an enjoyable day of learning and now have some new ideas that you are able to use in your classroom and with the children and families in your program.  There were well over 400 attendees this year which was exciting to see!

We have begun looking over the conference evaluation forms that you have given us in order to plan and continue to improve this event for next year.  Your feedback is invaluable as we strive to offer the highest quality conference experience to all of you each year!

FLAGLER TECHNICAL INSTITUTE OFFERS:

CHILD CARE DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST

The Flagler Technical Institute a division of Flagler County Public Schools, Adult & Community Education is currently taking applications for the next semester starting the week of January 24, 2012 and fall semester starting in August 2012.  FTI offers a FREE two (2) year Apprenticeship Program through the Florida Department of Education.  This program includes 300 classroom hours and 4000 on the job training hours.

Nine (9) hours can be articulated toward an A.S. degree in Early Childhood Education.
The Program is free through the Florida Department of Education’s Apprenticeship Program and Flagler Child Care GNJ, which is offered at various convenient locations in Volusia, Flagler, St. John’s, Putman, and Clay Counties. 

Classes are held one night a week in each of four semesters. The fourth semester student will prepare to receive a National Early Childhood Certificate (NECC) formerly called the CDA.

Requirements to enter the program:

Upon completion of the program, the student will receive The Florida Department of Education’s Child Care Apprenticeship Certificate (CCAC).

CHILD CARE CENTER OPERATIONS

The Director’s Credential is a 45 hour course in which students earn 4.5 CEUs upon completion.  The course is offered on five Saturdays starting March 17th ending April 28, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The cost for this course is $210.00 and is offered at The Flagler Technical Institute, One Corporate Drive, Suite 1-B, Palm Coast, FL 32137.   

DIRECTOR’S RENEWAL COURSE

The next Director’s Credential Renewal Course will start April 14th and end May 12, 2012.  This 4.5 CEU course is offered on five Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  The classes include a higher level of training for Directors.  This curriculum meets the requirement for the five year renewal of your Director’s Credential.  The cost of this course is $210.00 and is held at the Flagler Technical Institute, One Corporate Drive, Suite 1-B, Palm Coast, FL 32137.
