Child Screening and Assessment

Screening

Child Screening and AssessmentResearch shows that the first 5 years of life are crucial to your child’s development and set the stage for later years. In order to maximize your child’s success in school, the ELCFV provides free Developmental Screening to all children enrolled in School Readiness programs.

A screening is a quick process/snap shot of your child’s development and may include the following: developmental, hearing and vision screening.
It identifies if your child may need additional services.

ELCFV requests your active participation in the screening process as we recognize that parents/guardians have the most important role in a child’s life and know the child best.

The results of all screenings will be communicated with you and your child’s care provider.

If your child is identified as needing additional services, ELCFV’s screening staff will assist you with referral information.

By State mandate, one hundred (100%) of children in School Readiness programs receive a developmental screening yearly.

Assessment

Your child might also be assessed by his/her teacher. An assessment is a more detailed/in-depth look at your child’s development, primarily to assist teachers with activity planning. As with screening the results will be shared with you.
